CTRL-ART-DEL Assets
Programs Used: Blender and New Art City
CTRL-ART-DEL is a group exhibition made by the graduating digital media art students of
2023 at San Jose State University. The physical part of the exhibition occurred on
December 2nd, 2023. It served as an opportunity to share our artworks that are a culmination
of all the we have learned during our time in the program. Although the physical part of this
project has long been torn down, the virtual part is still accesible. Viewers can find our virtual
works on New Art City. The link is provided at the bottom.
As part of the virtual team in CTRL-ART-DEL, I was tasked with making some of the 3D Assets for the main
lobby of the New Art City exhibit. I've made the gates, a couple of wall decorations, and the floating
holographic screen. The gates resemble a monitor, tablet, and television because the idea is to take advantage
of the fact that New Art City has no colliders. Viewers can literally jump into the screen and travel to
the galleries where our projects are displayed. The floating hologram would be where the welcome message and
controls would be displayed. It would be the first thing the viewer would see when they enter the main lobby.
The theme of this exhibit was internet aesthetics of the early 2000s. The inspiration behind the designs of
the 3D assets was my own nostalgia for that aesthetic. To my younger self, the internet was this magical
place full of color. I have fond memories of those low-poly, colorful computer games that I would play when it's
computer lab day for my 1st grade class.
